The Force Commander (FC) of United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Shailesh Sadashiv Tinaikar, has paid a 2 day working visit to the Ghana Independent Company 2 (GHANCOY 2).
The FC, who was accompanied by the Acting Sector West Commander – Colonel (Col) Magne Malmo, on his visit, which spans from Wednesday 16th to Thursday 17th October 2019, was received by the Officer Commanding (OC), GHANCOY 2 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Daniel Ampadu, and the Head of Field Office Aweil – Mr Ataklti Hagege Hailu.
On his arrival at the GHANCOY position at Mango camp, Aweil, Lt Gen Tinaikar inspected a Quarter-Guard and proceeded to interact with the GHANCOY personnel, troops from other contributing countries and United Nations (UN) Staff from the Aweil Field Office.
The FC, who was highly pleased with the work output and professionalism of GHANCOY 2, wished the unit a successful duty tour, during his visit to GHANCOY 2, which forms part of his field assessments in Sector West, where there are other military components and troop contributing countries, such as Bangladesh and Nepal.
As part of his itinerary, the FC, together with UN Military Observers and the OC, visited the South Sudan Peoples Defense Force (SSPDF) Division 3 Headquaters at Wunyiik, Aweil East, where he was received by the Chief Operations Officer – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Angelo Liai Wol.
In his interaction with the SSPDF, the FC implored the SSPDF, to enforce the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between the United Nations and the government of the Republic of South Sudan.
The SOFA states that, UNMISS personnel shall enjoy full and unrestricted freedom of movement without delay, throughout South Sudan, by the most direct route possible, without the need for travel permit, prior authorization or notification except, in the case of movement by air, which will comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety regulations.
