The Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) of United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) – His Execellency (HE) David Shearer and his entourage, have paid a two-day working visit to the Aweil Field Office and Ghana Independent Infantry Company 2 (GHANCOY 2).
On his arrival at the airfield, he was received by the Head of Field Office – Mr Hailu Atakilti Hagege, the Governor of Northern Bahr el Gahzar (NBeG) State – Hon Tong Akeen Ngor and the Officer Commanding (OC) GHANCOY 2 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Daniel Ampadu, after which Mr David Shearer inspected a Guard of Honour at the Mango Camp, on the visit which took place from 10th to 11th November 2020.
During a dinner held in his honour at the “CE Edjeani-Afenu Mess”, HE David Shearer expressed gratitude to GHANCOY for the warm and exceptional reception accorded him and commended the Unit for its noticeable contribution to the Mission’s Mandate, even with the challenges posed by the COVID -19 Pandemic among others.
The SRSG also congratulated GHANCOY 2 on successfully completing its mission and wished troops a safe trip back home and a happy reunion with their families.
The OC thanked the SRSG for visiting and also appreciating GHANCOY’s contributions, assuring him that the incoming GHANCOY would equally exhibit similar commitment and dedication to duty, under the guidance of the Mission Headquarters, to ensure their mission was achieved.
The second day saw a centralized brief for the SRSG by the Field Office Senior Management Team and Humanitarian Agencies, after which the SRSG held a meeting with the Governor of NBeG State at his office compound in Aweil town.
