Brigadier-General (Brig-Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command (S/Comd) has commissioned a 6-bedroom self-contained accommodation and a guardhouse for the Eastern Gate at the HQ, for soldiers of S/Comd Headquarters (HQ).
This project claims significance because the increase in enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is not commensurate with general infrastructure development and accommodation provision in particular, with recent demands skyrocketing.
The commissioning ceremony – held on Friday 28th December, 2018 – was witnessed by personnel of GAF and the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of MAYFAIR ESTATES, BILDAF ESTATES and PARAGON Co Ltd, who variously helped in the construction of structures at the Command HQ.
In their various contributions to projects at the Command, MAYFAIR Ltd – a real estates company – bore the entire cost of the construction of the 6-bedroom apartments christened MAYFAIR BLOCK, BILDAF bore the cost of the Eastern Gate guardhouse from foundation to roofing level.
Additionally, PARAGON LTD undertook the painting and tiling of the guardhouse, renovated 2 accommodation blocks and the Kpeshie Medical Center, re-roofed the dining hall and reconstructed the Military Police Post, all at the HQ, at the company’s expense.
“Having been actively involved personally, in the genesis of these projects and, as a living witness and a participant in several meetings, I can only express my joy and satisfaction in commissioning them”, General Oppong-Peprah stated.
“I appeal to the men and women who will be allocated these self-contained rooms and those who would rest in the guardhouse, to take good care of the facilities and consider them a privilege to reside in them and not leave them to deteriorate”, the GOC concluded.
Dignitaries present were Brig-Gen Osei-Wusu – Director-General, Defence Industries Department, Paa Kwesi Serebuor – CEO, Paragon Ltd, Abu Frimpong Kwaning – CEO, Bildaf Ltd and John Watson Otumfuo – CEO, Mayfair Ltd and many others.
