With a spectacular performance at the historic Teshie Firing Range, the Ghana Army’s fearsome formation – Southern Command (S/COMD), have been crowned the ultimate champions of the 2019 Ghana Army Inter Command March and Shoot Competition, even after being pipped at the navigation session of the competition, by Support Services Brigade (SP SVC BDE).

The richly talent-full and invigorating contest, serving as a part of activities to mark the 2019 Ghana Army Week Celebration, was held on Wednesday, 25th of September, 2019, with an 8 kilometer navigation exercise from the Burma Camp Military Cemetery, through the Teshie Township, to the Military Academy Training Schools campuses, for 8 level obstacle crossing, then onward to the range.

The march and shoot competition had five commands – Army Training Command (ATRAC), Central Command (C/COMD), Northern Command (N/COMD), S/COMD and SP SVC BDE – vying for honours

With the Best Navigation Team, 2nd Runner-Up with 1 hour, 4 minutes, 18 seconds was won by N/COMD, and claimed with a certificate, 1st Runner-Up was ATRAC with 1 hour 4 minutes, 1 second and were awarded a certificate, the Best Navigation Team was SP SVC BDE, with 59 minutes, 45 seconds and grabbed a plaque and a certificate.

At the Obstacle Crossing, the Best Team was won by SP SVC BDE with 7 minutes 51 seconds and were awarded a plaque and a certificate.

The Best Male Individual Firer was Staff Sergeant Koli Appiah of S/COMD, who splendidly set the range alight by falling 5 plates with 5 rounds of ammunition and was awarded a plaque and a certificate.

On the Best Shooting Team, the 2nd Runner Up and the 1st Runner-Up position was tied but the difference was decided with the number of rounds remaining and the 2nd Runner-Up was taken by SP SVC BDE with 45 points gaining a plaque, the 1st Runner-Up was won by C/COMD with 105 points and won a certificate and the Best Shooting Team was won by SCOMD with 120 points.

At the Overall Best awards, the last Team was N/COMD, winning a handshake and a cash prize, ATRAC won the 4th position, SP SVC BDE with 173 points, won the 2nd Runner Up and gaining a trophy, certificate and a cash prize, 1st Runner Up was C/COMD with 205 points and won a certificate, trophy and a cash prize, Overall Best with 228.8 points to win a trophy, certificate and a cash prize was S/COMD.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Guest of Honour, Minister for National Secuirty – Albert Kan Dapaah, the Chief of the Defence Staff – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Obed Boamah Akwa, the Chief of Army Staff – Major General  (Maj Gen) William Ayamdo, Chief of Naval Staff – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Seth Amoama, Chief of Air Staff – Air Vice Marshall (AVM) Frank Hanson, Commandant of MATS – Maj Gen William Omane-Agyekum and Chief of Staff (GHQ)  – Maj Gen Thomas Oppong-Peprah.
