The Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has run its part of the baton, in the commemoration of the Ghana Navy’s Diamond Anniversary celebrations, by holding a medical outreach to care for the sick but needy in its neighbouring communities, at the Command Headquarters at Nuterkpor, in the Volta Region.
The health encounter, which ministered adequately to over eight hundred (800) inhabitants of the Command’s vicinity, took place on Saturday, August 31st, 2019, under the active supervision and participation of the Commanding Officer (CO) of the Navy Recruits Training School (NRTS – which is under NAVTRAC) – Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Frederick Kobla Kutsoati, his officers, men and women.
The outreach, which had been estimated to cater for about 500 persons, cared for residents of communities, such as Agave, Agortaga, Ametorme, Dabala, Djorgbenu, Galotse, Gamenu, Lavie and Nuterkpor, although the Command Sick Bay, is open regularly to its neighbours for free medical treatment.
There also was a blood donation exercise, which the Command personnel cheerfully donated and proceeds given to the Sogakope Government Hospital and the Richard Novartis Hospital (also known as COMBONI).
The involving program, which had various sections, such as personal hygiene education with questions and answers, Records, Waiting Area, Consulting, Eye Clinic, Pharmacy, Mental Health and Nutrition and Blood Donation, served a lot of old folks, with common ailments treated being arthritis, backaches, Malaria, respiratory tract infections, cataract, among others.
Pharmaceutical products given to patients, were donated by companies such as Tobinco Pharmaceuticals, M&J Pharmaceuticals, Pharmanova Pharmaceuticals, Ernest Chemist and 37 Chemists (whose personnel were also available to serve the throng of sick folks).
Lt Cdr Kutsoati was supported by a number of officers such his Second-In-Command – Lieutenant (Lt) Ghana Navy (GN) Molaja Sey, Nursing Officer In Charge (NOIC), Sick Bay – Captain (Capt) KA Mensah, Lt (GN) Boateng and Lt (GN) Amoah, amongst others.
