The outgoing and incoming Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) contingents at the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) – Ghana Battalions (GHANBATT) 14 and 15, have jointly held a colourful Guard of Honour for the inspection of the Western Commander/Contingent Commander (CONTICO) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) E W Kotia.
The Guard of honour took place at the forecourt of the Western Sector Headquarters, on the 23rd of March, 2019, at the INCAL Complex, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The purpose of the guard of honour was to mark the end of duty tour of Brig Gen Kotia, as the Sector Commander and CONTICO of the Ghanaian troops serving in the UN’s Peace Support Operations (PSO), in the DRC.
The CO of GHANBATT 15 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Sebastian Abraham Arhin, presented a plaque to honour Brig Gen Kotia, on the behalf of his incoming battalion.
Prior to the taking the guard of honour by the joint troops, Gen Kotia met with the Commanding Officer (CO) and key office holders of MONUSCO GHANBATT 15, who had just been inserted into the mission, after arriving from Ghana, on the 21st of March, 2019.
It would be recalled that GHANBATT 14, led by Lt Col Bernard Baba Pantoah, had successfully completed its mandated and had been awarded UN Peace Medals for their exemplary performance of duty.
Present at the ceremony included other COs, Deputy COs and staff of the Western Sector HQ.
