The Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 15) serving with the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), has inaugurated a newly constructed Volleyball and Badminton Courts, as well as a renovated gymnasium.
The Commanding Officer (CO) of MONUSCO GHANBATT 15, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Sebastian Abraham Arhin, who inaugurated the facilities at the Battalion’s Headquarters at INCAL Complex, Kinshasa, noted that the construction of the facilities was a demonstration of the commitment of his Command to the general well-being of troops and to reduce stress in order to ensure maximum productivity towards the mission of the battalion.
Lt Col Arhin added that the facilities would go a long way to significantly contribute to keeping personnel fit at all times to meet the physical demands of the job, but admonished personnel to take good care of the facilities to prolong their lifespan for future GHANBATTs.
The CO used the opportunity to express his appreciation and commendation to all ranks for their high standard of discipline, dedication and unwavering commitment to the mantra as the ‘State-of-the-Art GHANBATT’ and a GHANBATT of excellence, asserting that the commitment of troops gives credence to the fact that “when a leader takes good care of his followers, his followers are willing to do anything to help him succeed.”
Referring to the achievements of the Ghanbatt within such a short time, the CO also advised personnel to always to maintain a positive attitude to work and to approach each task assigned to them with optimism, emphasizing that “when you are always positive, good things come to you.”
Additionally, Lt Col Arhin expressed profound gratitude to the Military Higher Command of the Ghana Armed Forces for promptly providing the needed support to the Unit to undertake the projects, specifically mentioning the Minister for Defence – Hon. Dominic Nitiwul for his donation towards the project.
Lt Col Arhin also commended the Engineer Detachment of the Battalion for their selflessness in ensuring that the project was completed on schedule.
To commemorate the inauguration, there were special Volleyball, Badminton, Weight-Lifting and Tyre Flip-up competitions between various rank categories and individuals.
Trophies were presented to the Officers’ team, WO & Sgts team, Lieutenant Philip Oku and Corporal Bosomprah Christopher for emerging winners in the Volleyball, Badminton, Weight-Lifting and Tyre Flip-up competitions respectively.
