As part of Ghana Navy’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) has held a skills training program to help naval and selected spouses from the Army and Air Force, to acquire some employable skills, to aid service personnel of Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The Navy Diamond Jubilee Anniversary business startup training event, took place on the 22nd of July, 2019 and is expected to be completed by five (5) weeks and has been designed to cover several aspects, which include training in confectionaries, food dishes, beads making, flower arrangements, as well as home management and parenting skills.
Other skills imparted unto the spouses were practical training in confectionaries, some selected food dishes, bead making, batik tye-dye, soap making, flower arrangements, making of ice cream and preservatives, Bisap, Sobolo, soaps and creams, ornaments, flower arrangement and food preparations.
In all, the Navy is seeking to train a total of 300 spouses, which includes 200 Naval, 50 Army and 50 Air Force spouses and is estimated to have a total cost of Forty-Four Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢44,000), which has fully been absorbed by the Navy, making the training absolutely free, except for a participation certificate and registration fee of Twenty Ghana Cedis (GH¢20), by all participants.
Dignitaries present at the opening ceremony included the Member of Parliament for Tema East and Deputy Minister for Transport – Dr Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover (who was the Guest of Honour for the occasion, Tema Mantse – Nii Adjei Krakue II, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) – Commodore James Osei Kuntoh, other officers of ENC and executives of Naval Wives Association (NAWA).
