In the spirit of Civil-Military Cooperation, and in a bid to develop and secure his traditional area, the Paramount Chief of the Tepa Traditional Area (Tepa Omanhene) – Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem, has donated a parcel of land to the Ghana Army, for the construction of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Tepa, to enable the Armed Forces provide security in the area.
The Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) – Mr. Eric Agyemang-Prempeh, on behalf of the Tepa Omanhene, signed the documents of the land and handed over same to the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Army – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, who received and counter-signed, at the Army Headquarters, on Tuesday, 10 August 2021.
Mr. Agyemang-Prempeh added that accommodation facilities for Officers and Soldiers at the FOB, will be constructed by the AGYEMANG-PREMPEH FOUNDATION, and that the gift gesture was part of the people of Tepa’s responsibility as citizens, to help the Ghana Army deliver its mandate of providing security in the country.
As part of the goodwill gesture, Mr. Agyemang-Prempeh added that to quick start the construction of the FOB, he would provide a few trips of sand and other construction materials for the project, which would be located off the highway, with accommodation, administrative, streets, Parade Square and many other facilities.
The COAS, in return, said the location is strategically positioned to provide quick protection and security for adjoining regions for both Ahafo, Bono and Ashanti Regions, adding that the donation had come at the right time, as the Ghana Army is expanding to effectively and efficiently deliver its mandate.
General Oppong-Peprah said that the gesture had come at a good time when the Ghana Army is expanding with plans to create FOBs in the Central and Ahafo Regions.
The COAS emphasized the importance of such civil-military corporations, adding that the Army will continue to cooperate with the citizens and provide them with requisite protection, to enable them go about their daily activities safely and in peace.
The Ghana Armed Forces in recent times, has made frantic efforts to spread itself thin in providing prompt and adequate security across the length and breadth of the country, and has started with the construction of FOBs at Ezinlibo – Western Region, Bui – Bono Region and now Tepa – the capital town of Ahafo Ano North, an administrative district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Present at the presentation were the Chief Staff Officer, Army Headquarters – Brigadier General Charles Agyemang-Prempeh and some Senior Officers of the Army.
