The Ghana Army has commenced the construction of an accommodation project, a Peace Support Operations (PSO) Transit Quarters, for Officers from outside Accra-based Units, nominated for external PSO and to also accommodate those detailed for operational and administrative duties in Accra.
The sod cutting for that project, was undertaken on Thursday, 14th May, 2020, behind the Arakan Mess, Burma Camp, with the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Obed Boamah Akwa, as the Guest of Honour.
The one-year-long project, is a 2-floor Sixteen (16) Standard Guest Rooms and Four (4) Executive Rooms (which have lounges), adding up to a 20-Room capacity facility, with swimming pool, a conference room with ancillary facilities and a courtyard.
Addressing the sparse gathering at the groundbreaking event, the CDS, General Akwa, intimated that the chain of accommodation construction initiatives in recent times, are important because the challenges that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) faces, cannot be tackled by the government alone, hence wherever sound inputs from individuals, organizations, can be gotten to help address the accommodation deficit, is most welcome.
The project, designed and to be monitored by the Engineer Services of GAF, is a partnership of the Army, Mayfair Estates Ltd and McDan Logistics Ltd, and is predicted by General Akwa, to be a monumental addition to the housing stock of the Army, in particular and GAF, in General.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) – Major General (Maj Gen) T Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) S Amoama, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) – Air Vice Marshal (AVM) F Hanson, Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters – R/Adm IA Yakubu and AVM FA Bekoe – Special Duties, Jubilee House.
