Leadership as Commander for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Support Services Brigade Group (SP SERV BDE GP), has changed over from Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Matthew Essien to Brig Gen John Agyakwa, after the former had been at the helm for about thirteen months, and has been reassigned as Commander of the newly established Army Special Operations Brigade.
The handing/taking over and pulling-out ceremony, was held at the SP SERV BDE GP Headquarters on Friday, 13th August, 2021, with the Chief of Staff (COS), at the General Headquarters – Major General (Maj Gen) Nicholas Peter Andoh, as the Guest of Honour and Supervisor of the changeover event.
Maj Gen Andoh commended Brig Gen Essien for the massive transformation he brought to the Brigade, during his tenure, adding that commanders should always recognize the military as a service to humanity, whenever appointed into office.
General Andoh congratulated the new Commander – Brig Gen Agyakwa and added that, he was hopeful that his wealth of experience would help him to steer the Brigade, in achieving its mission of “effectively and efficiently coordinating the logistic support of the Armed Forces, in peace and during operational deployment”.
Brig Gen Essien expressed gratitude to 1) High Command – for giving him the opportunity to serve, 2) personnel of SP SERV BDE GP – for the support given him during his tenure of office, and urged the latter to continue being loyal, dedicated and to work hard for the betterment of the Brigade by supporting the new Commander to succeed.
ARMY SPECIAL OPERATIONS BRIGADE (described as “The Tip of the Spear”) is Special Operations Forces of GAF with 64 Infantry Regiment and 69 Airborne Force as Units, with a mission to conduct high risk strategic operations, to counter threats to Ghana’s security.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included the Chief Staff Officer (CSO) of the Army Headquarters Brig Gen Agyeman-Prempeh and Senior Officers of GAF.
