The Director-General, Defence Communication Information Systems (DCIS) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Matthew Essien, has cautioned two hundred and one (201) Sports Recruits of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), to desist from shameful acts of indiscipline that would erode the hard won reputation of the armed forces.
Brig Gen Essien threw this caution, as the Guest of Honour, in a speech at the Induction and Religious Parade for recruits of Basic Infantry Training Course (BITC) 1-2019, on Sunday 8th December, 2019 at the Jungle Warfare School (JWS), Achiase.
v“I must assure you that GAF jealously guards its hard earned reputation, therefore the few indiscipline soldiers, who engage in all sorts of shameful activities that, bring the image of the armed forces into disrepute, should desist or face the repercussions that go with such acts”, Brig Gen Essien asserted.
General Essien indicated that, military training is designed to imbibe in recruits traits of discipline, dedication, selflessness, self-control and patriotism, as well as equip them with basic skills, upon which they would build their military career.
Gen Essien asserted that at the end of the training, each recruit is expected to be mentally tough, courageous, physically fit, knowledgeable, strong, bold and disciplined and with a high capacity to get tasks executed, however, he warned that negative traits such as laxity, lousiness, idleness, lack of self-control and selfishness, should departed from recruits, during their transformation.
On Friday 4 October 2019, 201 sports recruits reported to the JWS, to begin a 6-month BITC, after which they would be shared amongst the three services of GAF, to aid sports development and competitions at various levels.
Dignitaries present at the parade included Lieutenant Col (Lt Col) Owusu – Commanding Officer (CO), JWS, Lt Col Emmanuel Larbi Sarpong Gyadu – CO, Army Recruits Training School, Shai-Hills paramount chief of Akyim Achiase – Dasebre Gyenin Kantan II, amongst many.
