The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has cut sod for the construction of a 20-bed transit accommodation for Officers, to mark the Second Phase of the GAF UN Village concept, to complement the newly commissioned BK AKAFIA Transit Lodge, which is mainly for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) of the Armed Forces.
The sod cutting event took place on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the Arakan Barracks, Burma Camp, and is expected to be completed in 12 months, with construction and funding by fully-funded by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Paragon Company Ltd – Mr Kwasi Serebour.
The eventual UN Village, in addition to entailing the BK Akafia edifice and the 20-bed officers’ accommodation, will have a car park, tank farm, bore-hole, parade ground, buffer zone, soccer field, officers dining place, paved courtyard with underground rain-water receptacle, multipurpose hall (324-seater dining hall) with washrooms.
Dignitaries present at the sod-cutting event included the former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Benedictus Kodzo Akafia (Rtd), the CDS – Vice Admiral (V/Adm) Seth Amoama, who was the Guest-Of-Honour, the Chief of the Army Staff – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Naval Staff – Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters – Maj Gen Peter Nicholas Andoh, the Commandants at the Military Academy Training Schools and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center – Maj Gen Charles Awity and Maj Gen Francis Ofori.
