The Commander-In-Chief (C-In-C) and President of the Republic of Ghana – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned four (4) new blocks containing sixty-four (64) apartments, as part of the Barracks Regeneration Project (BRP) – a section of the Welfare Enhancement Package, which the government is pursuing, as antidote to the acute challenges facing the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The commissioning, on Tuesday, 12th May, 2020, at the New Douala Barracks, Burma Camp in Accra, starts the completion phase of the BRP, which started in 2017, under the supervision of the Ministry for Defence.
With the edifices outdoored, each apartment has a living room, two (2) bedrooms, a kitchen and standard sanitary facilities, and similar on-going accommodation projects are near completion at the Airborne Force, Six (6) Infantry Battalion in Tamale, and other garrisons.
The C-In-C, speaking at the commissioning, also hinted that, as concerns the road network in GAF barracks, sod will be cut in the proceeding week, for the commencement of the construction of Phase II of Burma Camp Roads.
“Indeed, the list of all roads in the garrisons have been submitted to the Ministry and soon, work will begin on all the roads that are not in good condition. I have to redeem the pledge I made to you about your roads, and I am doing so.
“Over the last three years, we have worked diligently to improve the state of operational readiness of the Armed Forces, by retooling all the Services to enable you to perform your roles more efficiently and effectively”, the C-In-C intimated.
Present at the ceremony included the Minister for Defence and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla – Dominic Nitiwul, National Security Adviser – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Emmanuel Okyere (Rtd), the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) OB Akwa, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) – Major General (Maj Gen) T Oppong-Peprah, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Seth Amoama, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) – Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Frank Hanson.
Additionally present were the Chief of Staff (COS) at the General Headquarters (GHQ) – R/Adm IA Yakubu and the Director-General, Logistics – Brig Gen P Osei-Wusu.
