The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Athletics Team was adjudged excellent, when they put out a marvellous display in the just-ended Past Athletics Association of Ghana (PAAG) Invitational Championship 2022, by winning 9 Gold, 11 Silver and 9 Bronze medals.


The Championship, which was held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi from Friday 24 to Saturday 25 June, 2022, was for 273 invited athletes based on their performance nationwide; out of which 52 were from GAF.


Private Arthur Ishmael won gold and bronze medals in the 10,000 meters and 5,000 meters races, respectively, whiles in the shot-put event, Trooper Haruna Foli – a female athlete, won gold medal, and in the discus event, Private Musah Mariama won a silver medal, with other GAF Athletes winning silver and bronze medals.


Similarly, two GAF female athletes who qualified for the Commonwealth Games and World Championship Trials competed in Edo State, Nigeria from Thursday 23 June 2022 to Sunday 26 June 2022.


They are Private Amissah Ethel and ABII Boakye Mary from the Fifth Infantry Battalion and the Naval Base Sekondi respectively.


In all, GAF won Silver medal in the 4×100 race, a Bronze medal in the 4×400 race and another Bronze medal in the 4×400 relay race.
