Ghana Navy’s (GN) Eastern Naval Command (ENC) has commissioned a new modern gymnasium – the ENC FITNESS CENTRE – at the Naval Base, Tema, to facilitate personnel’s good health, fitness and recreation, adding to the Command’s sports facilities.

The facility was fully constructed and sponsored by VERHAD TRANSPORT and HAULAGE Ltd as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, with the commissioning taking place on Wednesday, 2 November, 2022. The outgoing Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) – Commodore (Cdre) Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo, assisted by the incoming – Cdre Maxwell Arhen and the Managing Director of the company – Mr Maxine Husseini, cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Cdre Kwafo, with the consent of Cdre Arhen and the President of the ENC Mess Committee, conferred ‘Honorary Membership’ of the ENC Mess on Mr Maxine Husseini, Nazir Husseini and Samuel Husseini – Managing Director, General Manager and Operations Manager of the company, respectively, for their cooperation with the Command.

The ENC Fitness Centre, which is furnished with treadmills, upright exercise bicycles, assorted dumbbell sets, elliptical trainers, resistance bands, free weights amongst many others, adds up to sporting resources within the Command, which already has a swimming pool, a basketball court, a volleyball and mini soccer pitches.

VERHAD TRANSPORT and HAULAGE Ltd is a multipurpose company with a complete logistics management system serving the West Africa subregion, and operates in areas of cleaning, supply, waste disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous material, warehousing and storage.

Other dignitaries present included Commanding Officers of the Naval Base, Tema and Leadership Training School – Commander (Cdr) Michael Cudjo and Cdr Salifu Musah, respectively, Officers and Ratings of ENC, Management members and staff of the company.
