The Aflao Sector Command of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intercepted a large consignment of undeclared goods which were being smuggled into the Ghanaian market for various consumptions.

The confiscated goods, which included assorted pharmaceutical drugs and electricity meters, were accumulated seizures that the Command had retrieved from Nigeria-Accra bound buses, at Akatsi on the Aflao to Accra highway, but the smugglers abandoned the goods at the appearance of Custom officers, for fear of arrest and fled.

The Aflao Sector Commander of the Customs Division of GRA – Mrs Sheila Vigbedor, urged the general public to be careful and only trust drugs from accredited or licensed agents and also to acquire electricity meters only from Power Distribution Services (PDS), the accredited national electricity distributor.

She urged traders to take advantage of the government policy of 50% reduction in Benchmark Values of imported goods to use approved Customs entry and exit points of the country and not engage in smuggling activities.
