The Deputy Minister for Defence – Major (Maj) Derrick Oduro (Rtd), has cut sod for the construction of an ultramodern Guest-house for the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Central Command (C/COMD).
The estimated Three Million Ghana Cedis (GHC 3m) project, whose sod was cut on Thursday 13th February, 2020, at Danyame in Kumasi, is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) spearheaded by Ellis Royal Construction Limited, led by George Asamoah – the Managing Director and the Military High Command (specifically, the Army Headquarters), and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The Deputy Minister commended the initiative of the military high command, for venturing into PPP, and Ellis Royal Construction Ltd, for teaming up with the Army, to come up with the project and urged all concerned, to put their shoulders to the wheel, for a successful completion of the edifice.
In his welcome remarks, the GOC, C/Comd – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Joseph Aphour, commending past commanders for working towards this quest, indicated that, the construction of the GOC’s Guest House had come at the right time, as it would be of immense help to transiting officers and other dignitaries that find themselves in Ashanti Region for official or unofficial duties.
The facility comprises of eighteen (18) regular rooms, three (3) suites, two (2) offices, thirty-five (35) capacity restaurant, kitchen with a yard, reception with lounge bar, thirty-five (35) capacity conference room, changing-room, laundry, car park, fence wall with a security post and CCTV cameras installation.
Present at the groundbreaking ceremony were the Ashanti Regional Minister – Simon Osei- Mensah, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer – Osei Assibey-Antwi, the immediate-past Chief of the Army Staff – Major General (Maj Gen) William Azure Ayamdo, some senior military officers from the Ministry of Defense, Army Headquarters and Headquarters, C/Comd, 4 Infantry Battalion and other guests.
