The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) William Azure Ayamdo has iterated the need for personnel to keep the military barracks and its surroundings clean in line with military tradition.
Maj Gen Ayamdo said this when he partook in a Tree Planting Exercise at Barwah Barracks, Tamale, on Saturday September 28, 2019, as part of activities to mark the 2019 Army Week celebration at 6 Garrison, which was under the theme: ‘Ghana Army: Providing Security for National Development’, which also saw activities such as a clean-up exercise, and medical outreach programme.
Maj Gen Ayamdo accentuated on the partnership between the military and other sister security services, in helping the developmental agenda and also defend the territorial integrity of the country.
“Our celebration is not much of festivity, but an occasion to showcase and reinforce Ghana Army’s achievements over the years, so that the Ghanaian, on whose tax we thrive, can appreciate us better”, the General said.
“It is also to boost morale and to further reinforce team building among personnel and give recognition to individual who have distinguished themselves in the course of duty”, he continued.
He emphasized that the Ghana Army, had exhibited the things they have in the army, which would go a long way to support the nation’s agenda in development and keeping peace in the country.
“As we do this tree planting, let us shed a tear, for our colleagues who are no longer here with us and also pray for them”, he said.
Present at the ceremony were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in Tamale – Mr Iddrisu Musah Superior and the Northern Regional manager for Forestry Commission, Mr Bernard Tabil.
