Five hundred and sixty-four (564) recruits have been formerly admitted into the Army Recruits Training School (ARTS), Shai-Hills, at a Religious and Induction Parade, to be converted into soldiers after 24 weeks of intensive training, to augment the manpower capability of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The Induction parade, took place on Sunday, 27th October, 2019, with the Guest of Honour – Director, Army Training – Colonel (Col) Frank Nartey Tei, praising the female recruits for their determination and fortitude for staying put, since their arrival at the school on August 23rd 2019, although 3 male recruits could not withstand the initial pressure and have since gone AWOL (absent without leave).
Col Tei, additionally urged parents of the recruits, not to be negative influences upon the recruits into illegal activities such as score-settling, debt collection, intimidation and others.
The Commanding Officer (CO) of the training school – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Emmanuel Larbi Sarpong Gyadu, used the occasion – which was well patronized by family and friends of the recruits – to be wary of scams on mainly social media, which purport to help persons aspiring to join GAF.
Lt Col admonished all aspirants into GAF, to be alert at publications in particular newspapers, which would publish the enlistment forms and their requirements.
The Ghana Army Recruits, are being tutored in areas such as weapons and tactics, map reading, voice procedures, weapon handling, physical fitness amongst many others, would be in the state of continued training up to the month of February, 2020.
The recruits training school is one of the arms under the Army Training Command (ATRAC), under the Army Headquarters, however, it is expected that corporate bodies would put in an effort, to provide certain critical facilities that are needed in the training of the “peace producers/keepers” for Ghana.
