Fifty-two (52) officers of five African Armed Forces, have graduated at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), with the Junior Staff Course (JSC), after 19 weeks of significant career progression courses.
The graduation ceremony of JSC 72 of GAFCSC, was held on Friday, 20th December, 2019, at the Hamidu Hall of the esteemed military college, with 36 officers from Ghana, 2 from Botswana, 2 from Liberia and 5 from Nigeria.
Five other students, one each from other Ghanaian Security Services namely; National Security Secretariat, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Police Service, Prisons Service, Fire Service and Narcotic Control Board, joined the military students later, in a 2-week Internal Security and Counter-Insurgency package of the Course.
The 2-week programme, culminated into Exercise OMBUDSMAN, where the students and participants were practically exercised on Internal Security Management.
The Course, which was intended to afford participants the opportunity to broaden their professional and general outlook, on matters of both national and international dimensions, had a combination of lectures, presentations and seminars, delivered by experienced lecturers from the University of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and resource persons from State Agencies, with their efforts professionally complemented by the military and other Security Services staff.
The JSC graduates also embarked on an Environmental Studies Tour, which took them to the Upper West Region, and exposed them to socioeconomic issues that are fundamental to the development of Ghana.
Lieutenant (Ghana Navy) l Adzayawo was adjudged the Overall Best on the Course, Captain BM Alemoh of the Nigerian Army – Best Allied Student and Revenue Officer EE Ankrah of Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority – Best Allied Security Service Student.
Dignitaries present included Major General (Maj Gen) Kwesi Yankson (Rtd) – Guest of Honour, Rear Admiral Moses Beick-Baffour – Commandant, GAFCSC, Assistant Commandant – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Mike Akpatsu, and the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command (ENC) – Commodore Sam Walker.
