The Fourth Battalion of Infantry (4BN) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has built and commissioned a new multipurpose hall at its Command, in honour of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of GAF – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Obed Boamah Akwa.
The OB AKWA COMPLEX, inaugurated on Friday, the 15th of March, 2019, comprises of an auditorium with a seating capacity of 400, Operations Room, Duty Officers restroom, a library, a WIFI for Internet access, as well as washrooms for users of the facility.
CDS, in his speech expressed his appreciation for the cordial relations that exist between the political authority and the military establishment in the region and commended the CO and the unit for their hardwork and commitment to the development of the region.
The General stated that, Ashanti Region is strategically located to the country in many respects, therefore by extension, so is 4BN, which is charged with the responsibility of assisting the political administration to ensure security.
CDS Akwa expressed delight for the generous support of individuals and organizations, both financial and material, to make the project possible, of which he said is a strong indication of a positive relationship that exists between the unit and its civilian counterparts.
General Akwa made a passionate appeal to the unit to continue to nurture and grow the cooperative relationship, which he said is good for national development.
The CDS further commended the families of personnel, for their total support, which he said is having a positive impact on the unit’s administration and morale.
The Commanding Officer (CO) of 4BN, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Sebastian Abraham Arhin, in his welcome address disclosed that, since assumption of office, the unit had undertaken a number of developmental projects, to improve the welfare of personnel and the unit as a whole, with the multipurpose hall being the flagship project.
Some of the projects completed under his Command include a new conference hall for briefings, Civilian Employees office complex, a reception hall for visitors, sachet water production factory and a barbering shop.
The CO expressed profound gratitude to the immediate past CO, who laid the foundation for him to continue with these projects, adding that the completion of the hall is really a dream come true for personnel of the unit, since it is going to ease them of the inconveniences they had to deal with, using the old hall for lectures, durbars, and other social gatherings.
The disability-friendly hall complex, which also has an electronic security system for a 24hour surveillance, is the first of its kind in the Infantry Battalions of the Ghana Army.
The hall complex is named after the distinguished GAF General, to serve as an inspiration to both current and future officers and men of GAF and the gesture is also in recognition and appreciation of the CDS distinguished Carrera and his unwavering support for the unit.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, the Kwadaso Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Richard Agyenim-Boateng, Regional heads of sister security services, Ex-servicemen of the unit and other guests, were present to grace the ceremony.
