The former Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Opoku-Adusei (Rtd), has inaugurated a state-of-the-art gymnasium at the 4 Garrison Officers’ Mess, Danyame, Kumasi.
The construction of the gym, an initiative of the former Army Chief, when he was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the then Northern Command (now Central Command), will be operated by Pulse Fitness Ghana – a private company, well known in good health and fitness training.
The gym, inaugurated on Friday, 6 September 2019, is well equipped with a wide range of gym machinery and instructors, to help users achieve physical fitness, sound mind and healthy bodies, as the gym comes to add up to the already existing sporting clubs in the 4 Garrison Officers’ Mess, for recreation and physical/fitness training.
In his remarks, the former Army Commander underscored the need for the gymnasium saying it will serve officers deployed outside the Barracks who are not available for the routine physical training exercises, as regular exercises help maintain healthy body and mental uprightness.
He expressed delight at the generous support of individuals and organizations both financially and otherwise to make the project come to reality.
In his welcome address, the GOC, Central Command – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Joseph Aduko Aphour, said that Armed Forces all over the world, thrive because its members are trained to maintain a well-balanced physical health.
General Aphour indicated that, the gym would augment the regular training exercises troops receive from their physical training instructors weekly, but implored personnel and the general public to patronize the facility so that it realizes its objective.
Brig Gen Aphour used the occasion to eulogize his predecessors; Brig Gen JA Boampong and Brig Gen CB Alhassan, for their continuous support and contribution towards the construction of the gymnasium, expressing his appreciation to individuals and organizations that supported the completion of the gym.
