The exercise which took place on Saturday 28 September 2019, in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Oforikrom Municipal Assembly respectively, saw military personnel sweep rubbish, clear bushes and desilt choked gutters around Adum, Doctor Mensah general area, Kejetia, frontage of Kumasi Central Market, Tech Junction and some parts of Oforikrom.
The aim of the exercise was to deepen civil-military relationship, project the professional image of the Ghana Army and also contribute to the Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Ghana Armed Forces, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s agenda of making Ghana the cleanest country in Africa, a mission being pursued by the KMA’s ‘Keep Kumasi Clean Campaign’.
The exercise was immensely supported by KMA, Zoomlion Ltd (a sanitation company) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), through various contributions, which made the effort a success.
Some residents of the areas and market women as well as drivers were among the active participants of the exercise, and the Mayor of Kumasi – Honourable Osei-Assibey Antwi was appreciative of this move by the Ghana Army and applauded it for its contribution to cleanliness in the Garden City, but quickly urged other security services and organisations, to all get on board in keeping the metropolis tidy.
