The Second Battalion of Infantry (2BN) of the Ghana Army, based in Takoradi, has marked the Army Week with a Medical Outreach for traders and their families, at Apremdo New Market and a massive cleanup exercise at the Kwesimintsim Lorry Station, to round up the activities of the national celebrations of the Ghana Army.

The medical outreach and the cleanup exercises, were held on Thursday 26th and Saturday 28th September 2019, respectively, to care for the health of the battalion’s immediate neighbours, where at the end, over 380 traders and their families were screened, treated and supplied with medications for various ailments, and choked gutters and stagnant water bodies were dis-silted and drained off.

The Commander Rear of 2BN – Major (Maj) Matthew Ayawine, said that the Army Week, which was celebrated nationwide under the theme: “Ghana Army – Providing Security for National Development”, was to showcase to the general public, the Army’s achievements over the years and its humanitarian capability.

Maj Ayawine pointed out that the purpose of moving the 2MRS to the New Market was to accord the traders’ easy access to medical care, since they were more often busy and did not have the time to access the medical facility.

He appealed to them to take advantage of the presence of the medical team in their neighbourhood and get themselves screened and treated freely, further urging them to regularly undergo medical check-ups to ensure that they were always in good health.

The 2MRS, being virtually moved to the Apremdo New Market, personnel from the healthcare facility, led by Lieutenant (Lt) Jude Boakye-Boateng, treated ailments such as Malaria, diabetes, hepatitis B, blood pressure (hypertension), and dental problems, among others.

The traders, as well as their families, were very excited about the program and expressed their gratitude to the Army and the 2MRS for such a considerate and kind gesture, but prayed the unit to continue to bring medical care to their doorsteps.
